  • SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT TO DO TO HELP 2018 DISASTER VICTIMS

You and your friends, write letters to Congressmen

Please write letters and ask your friends in other states to write letters to Congress. Congressmen of Florida are well aware of the damage and hurt Florida is facing. We need to tell our story to inform states outside of Florida about the devastation of the 2018 disasters. We need to not only cheer on our Florida Congressmen, we need to also garner support from those outside our legislative delegation including those in other disaster areas. Equitable tax treatment among disaster victims should be a no-brainer. Ask Congress to pass some legislative tax relief and ask the IRS to give us updated cost index tables for calculating casualty damages. A 2018 tax relief bill and cost index tables would assure that taxpayers suffering from the 2018 named disasters are treated no less favorably than the victims of Katrina, Harvey, Irma and Maria.

Our homes and communities were severely damaged by Hurricane Michael. There are no words to adequately describe the devastation. People must see our community to really understand and grasp the massive scale of destruction. Tax Relief has proven to be an incredibly effective tool in helping communities recover from large scale disasters. It was said after Hurricane Katrina that those most touched by the tragic destruction also became the most eloquent advocates for recovery. Will you ask for help for our recovery? You have a voice; let it be heard!
